New World Ranking System

The BISFed Competition Committee have now released the new World Ranking System for the 2017-2020 quadrennial. The new system has been developed using the knowledge of the Competition Committee and the mathematical expertise of UK Sport’s Intelligence Team. The proposed method has been put through extensive simulations using data from past events and will go through further testing prior to its introduction ahead of the 2018 season. continue reading

BISFed 2017 Asia & Oceania Championships, Hong Kong – Team and Pairs Results

The team and pairs finals produced some fantastic performances in Hong Kong this morning.

There were no shocks in the BC1/BC2 team event. Favourites Thailand put on an incredible show beating Japan 13-0 in the final. The Japan team have had a number of excellent results leading up to the Regional Championships, and despite the heavy defeat the signs look good for them as their road to a home Paralympic Games begins.

“BISFed 2017 Asia and Oceania Championships – Hong Kong”, organised by the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (HKPC&SAPD) will be held from 24 – 28 May at Ma On Shan Sports Centre. A press conference was hosted today (19 May) to announce the Championships details and invite the public to join.

Sao Paulo 2017 – Parapan American Youth Games

Over 800 youth athlets gathered to celebrate the opening of the fourth edition of the Parapan-American Youth Games in Sao Paulo last night.  The competition runs through to Saturday 25th March and will have athletes from 12 sports compete for the medals. With 3 years to go until Tokyo 2020, many of the athletes will see this as an invaluable stepping stone to further success in Japan.

Expression of Interest for 2017 Competitions

In a bid to deal with the growing demand for international Boccia events the BISFed Competition Committee have introduced a far more expansive calendar of events for the next quadrennial. To ensure members are able to attend a fair number of events the expression of interest for all events will be centrally managed. Hong Kong to Host!!

The Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled will host the upcoming BISFed 2017 General Assembly on 29th May 2017.

The meeting will take place at the conclusion of the BISFed 2017 Asia and Oceania Regional Championships. More information will be made available in January 2017, but members wishing to attend should save the date NOW!

12th Edition of Competition Rules

The rules committee has been working long and hard sifting through the proposals and responses from our members. We specifically considered FAIRNESS and EQUALITY when making these decisions.

After many hours and much debating we have our first draft of the 12th edition ready to present to you. These rule changes were proposed and accepted from survey results. In page 3 of the Rule book you will notice that we ask for your observances throughout 2017.

Anti-Doping Announcement

Then IPC medical manager has requested the cooperation of all assistants to athletes in the BC3 class. Any assistants who are taking any prohibitive substance on the 2016 Prohibited List need to complete the BISFed TUE form for assessment according to the World Anti-Doping Code.

The 3 BISFed World Open events that are scheduled for 2016 have all sold out. The events in Montreal, Dubai and Povoa have all seen applications rejected due to oversubscription. The first event gets underway in Montreal in 13 days time with competitors taking part from over 15 countries.

Finals Day at the BISFed 2016 World Individual Championships in Beijing

It was finals day in Beijing today but before the medal games came the semi finals. The BC1 competition was dominated by the Thai athletes. Pattaya Tadtong made short work in his game with David Smith. Tadtong went 5-0 up after 2 and cruised to an overall 8-0 victory. In the other semi final Witsanu Haudpradit looked to have his work cut out against Soulanis. An incredible 3rd end saw Haudpradit take a commanding 7-1 lead in the third and was able to cruise into a final with his fellow countryman.

Rio 2016: Female Athlete Quota

BISFed would like to clarify the International Paralympic Committee’s requirement regarding female quotas for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games before registration for the BISFed 2016 Individual World Championships begins. The BISFed 2016 Individual World Championships will be the last opportunity for athletes to earn points on the BISFed World Ranking List before March 30th 2016 which is the deadline for qualification for the Rio Paralympic Games.
