Domingos Vieira nominated for Allianz Athlete of the Month

Five para-athletes have been shortlisted for the Allianz Athlete of the Month poll for June 2015, and the public are now invited to vote for their winner via http://www.paralympic.org. Portuguese boccia player Domingos Vieira is hopeful that he will be able to claim yet another award to add to his 2 gold medals from Poznan before his attention turns to the 2015 European Team and Pairs Championships in Great Britain.

The 2015 Boccia World Open in Poznan drew to a close yesterday. The competition hosted many of the best athletes from across the globe and with the standard of play as high as it was, the competition could have been mistaken for a World Championships.

BISFed Announcement

We are very sorry to announce that Mei Shan Wong, the BC4 athlete representing Macau, passed away unexpectedly yesterday. Mei had competed in the Asia and Oceania Regional Team and Pairs Championships in Hong Kong only last weekend.

The tragedy happen during the 2015 Boccia World Open in Poznan, who held a moments silence before todays matches.

We send our deepest condolences to Wongs’ family and to NPC Macau.

Soutanes eyes Gold in Poznan

Greece’s Panagiotis Soulanis pulled one of the biggest shocks in the European Continental Cup in April. Now, Soulanis can prove that was no fluke when he takes part in the 2015 Boccia World Open, which begins Wednesday (17 June) in Poznan, Poland. Ranked No. 9 in the world in the BC1 category, Soulanis upset No. 1 David Smith of Great Britain in the European Cup semifinals, and went on to win gold. But Soulanis is careful not to let that victory get to his head.

2015 Boccia Asia and Oceania Team and Pairs Championships – REPORT

There was an incredible amount of talent on show this weekend as teams from across Asia and Oceania battled for the honour of becoming regional champions. If the World Championships were to give us an indication of what to expect then Thailand, Korea and Hong Kong were all going to take home the gold medals in the teams, BC3 and BC4 events respectively but unfortunately it didn’t all go to plan for the hosts.

BISFed President visits Macau

It has been a busy few days for the BISFed President. Today David Hadfield has been to Macau with BISFed Board Member and Secretary General and Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled General Secretary General, Martin Lam to visit Mr Antonio Fernandes, Chairman, from the Macau Paralympic Committee and a number of Macau Boccia athletes.

2015 Boccia Asia and Oceania Team and Pairs Championships Press Conference

A press conference has just been held in Hong Kong ahead of the 2015 Boccia Asia and Oceania Boccia Team and Pairs Championships at the Hong Kong Sports Institute. The venue is also the training venue for the hosts and delegates attending the conference had the opportunity to meet the Hong Kong Boccia Squad and to were able to announce the organization of the Championships by the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (HKPC&SAPD).
