BISFed are sad to announce the passing of Belgian BC3 athlete Kenneth Verwimp. He represented Belgium internationally for many years, most recently in Povoa at the 2017 European Championships. He also had the opportunity to showcase his sporting prowess in Rio last year where he finished 10th in the individual competition and 5th in the BC3 Pairs event with Pieter Cilissen and Kirsten De Laender.
Anne d’Ieteren, President of the Belgian Paralympic Committee, “We will keep Kenneth the memory of a very talented athlete. He will remain an example for all of us. Kenneth faced his illness and disability with great discretion and dignity, remaining continuously positive despite the difficulties he was experiencing. We regret that life is taken away from him so soon. All our thoughts are directed to his family and his entourage in this terrible ordeal. His family, and especially his father Luc, had invested a great deal in Kenneth’s sporting career. We express our gratitude to him.”
Marc Vergauwen, Secretary General of the Belgian Paralympic Committee and President of Parantee-Psylos, “Kenneth was a magnificent athlete, a great boccia player. He went far too early. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Kenneth, wherever you are, how beautiful your path is.”
Kenneth lost his short battle with illness on 19th November.
