Ones to Watch from the Americas!
We’ve looked at the strength of the teams from Asia, we’ve looked at who might provide a challenge from Europe and we’ve had a thorough look at what the Brazilian athletes have to offer but now its time to see what the rest of the athletes from the Americas can do!
Mauricio Ibarure (BC1) from Argentina is currently ranked number 18 in the World Rankings. He’ll hope that he can beat the likes of Pattaya Tadtong but realistically he’ll be happy with a medal of any variety.
The BC2 class sees the first Bermudan boccia player take part in the Paralympic Games. Yushae Desilva-Andrade has climbed to 32nd in the World after only entering the International scene 4 years ago. Sebastian Gonzalez (Argentina) is the only other athletes from the Americas in the BC2 class.
Team Canada will be hoping that Eric Buissiere and Bruno Garneau can challenge for the medals in the BC3 individual. The pair also have a chance to medal in the BC3 pairs competition. Perhaps Canada’s best chance lies in the BC4 class. Marco Dispaltro and Alison Levine are ranked World number 5 and 15 respectively but both have a realistic chance to medal in the individual competition!
